MandM's are gluten-free, except the krispy kind in the blue. So are hershey's bite-sized bars, but again, not the krispy variety (in red). Peppermint Patties are gluten-free, as are Hot Tamales, Dots, Totsie Rolls, Swedish Fish, Mike and Ike, Charleston Chew. These were the candies I used to eat (until I had to stop eating dairy). I think Jelly Bellies are as well, though you should double check, there may be some no-no flavors. I miss trick or treating - I'm 23 now, so sorry, not entirely a teenager - be a little weird if I went out. Hope you have fun!!

Don't forget Reese's! The best candy I've ever had the pleasure to taste! But not the vanilla ones.. they're wheat free I'm pretty sure.. but they taste terrible. As for birthdays.. I tend to stick with gluten-free cheesecake. There are tons of good recipes for those and you don't get let down by the not-as-good gluten free birthday cake. But then again.. I really like cheesecake so I might be biased.

Okay, so I'm not a teen - but twizzlers and licorice is out. And if you like ice cream cake, call DQ a couple of days ahead and I think they can make one up for you that would be gluten-free. (My great nephew was born on 10/31)

I was once told that the regular bite sized plain hershey's chocolates are gluten-free, but the ones that come in the multi packs with other hershey candies aren't. I've never checked up on it to see if it's true, but you might want to

Yeah--I saw that on Delphi. They use a different paste to keep the packaging on or something--and the paste for those that are in the multi-packs contains malt.

I'm 14 and I don't trick or treat anymore! I stopped... I guess two years ago.

Oh, some candy?

Gluten Free Candy List

October 2005

Disclaimer:  This list is for reference only and the user should contact manufacturers directly.  It is a guideline and the user accepts full responsibility for use of it.  At the time of it’s posting, it is believed to be accurate with current gluten-free information.  As a gluten-free consumer, you are responsible for making your own food selections.  I am not a medical expert, I’m a mom of a Celiac pre-schooler who is always on a quest for gluten-free knowledge.

Notes:  Please beware of candy that is not in it’s “normal shape.”  Often times, that means the ingredients are different, and could very well contain gluten.  Bags of mixed treats that do have gluten containing treats that touch each other should be discarded due to cross-contamination.  If there is a treat that may not be listed on here, do not be alarmed… just check with the manufacturer.  I couldn’t get them all on here and I’m sure there are some I have forgotten.

Thanks:  I would like to thank all of the people who have shared information to make this list possible… including several ROCK leaders (Sue of NJ ROCK, Carrie of Reno ROCK, and Melissa of TampaBay ROCK) who consistently share their information with me and our ROCK Northern Virginia chapter.  I’d also like to thank Lindsay Amadeo of Iowa (who maintains a wonderful gluten-free commercial product listing which includes many tricks and treats), SillyYaks Yahoo!groups members including Judy Kramer, and members of the St. John’s Celiac List Serv.  Thanks to EVERYONE who responded in my quest for updating my list from last year.

~ Have a Spook-tacular Halloween!!!

We want to help our consumers avoid inadvertent ingestion of their specific allergens of concern by accurately informing them about the product ingredients and by following Good Manufacturing Practices in our factories.  All factories using a critical allergen as an ingredient must take all  reasonable precautions to avoid cross-contact of products that do not normally contain these allergens and products that do not carry a specific mention in the ingredient statement.  These precautionary measures include efficient cleaning of production lines and equipment And strict separation of materials that may contain critical allergens.  If an allergen does not appear on the ingredient statement, then it has not been added to the product and the likelihood of cross-contamination contact is so extremely low that the risk is insignificant.  We have also attached a copy of our gluten-free confection list.  We hope you find it helpful.  We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you and hope your inquiry was handled to your satisfaction.  Nestlé Confections & Snacks Gluten Free Products: This information includes products, which, to the best of our knowledge, do not contain wheat, rye, or barley/malt ingredients.  The list may not be complete subsequent to the date of issue due to formula changes and new product information.  Please read each product ingredient statement for the most current information.: Candy Bars-Baby Ruth; Butterfinger; Chunky; Nestlé Milk Chocolate; Oh Henry! • NOT GLUTEN FREE Whoppers

• NOT GLUTEN FREE Willy Wonka Oompas

• NOT GLUTEN FREE Zachary Brand Candy Corn (In regards to the e-mail that we recently received regarding the use of the listed ingredients used in the manufacturing of Candy Corn I must explain that these types of candies are technically gluten free.  However, we do in our facility have other items that do have ingredients that contain gluten ingredients and unfortunately we do not have the area in our manufacturing facility to segregate these items from one another.  Therefore there is an opportunity for there to be cross contact with storage containers and manufacturing equipment that could potentially lead to these candy corn items having trace ingredients of gluten.  So unfortunately I cannot guarantee one hundred percent that even though these candies do not contain any ingredients that contain gluten that this product had not come in contact with items and equipment that have.  Obviously we are very sympathetic as food manufacturers with issues such as allergens and other intolerances.  It is our desire to have as many people as possible to enjoy our candies and be able to eat them without fear of any health consequences.  However as a small manufacturing facility we cannot go to the lengths and measures that larger companies can in regards to segregation of ingredients, washing of equipment between shifts or having a separate facility to manufacture only certain products containing problem ingredients and thereby eliminating cross contamination issues.  I wish I had a more positive answer for your question but unfortunately in cases like this I would rather be sure than to indicate that there is nothing in the candies and have something happen that could jeopardize someone’s precious health.

OPTIONS FOR DEALING WITH CANDY

THAT DOES CONTAIN GLUTEN:

• Donate it to your local food bank

• Gather it together & leave it on the kitchen table with a note to “The Pumpkin Fairy.”  The Pumpkin Fairy is notorious for swooping down your chimney and taking the unhealthy candy and leaving one nice “treat” that is generally a non-edible toy.

• Have gluten-free goodies on hand to “trade” your child for the unsafe stuff

• Save it to use for making a Gingerbread house for the holidays (just for viewing, of course!)

• Some dentists will accept your child’s candy and will “trade” it for some healthy options

• Sort it, “buy it back” from your child, allow him/her to use that money to buy more gluten-free goodies

• Sort it, separate it, toss it

• Sort it, separate it, trade it with another child who can have that candy & trade for the gluten-free goodies

Well, that's a big question. When he was seeing the nutrition response testing dr. that changed each time we went in. He hasn't been seeing him regularly for theist ten months. When he had a horribly week in March I started him back on the 4 that were suggested to keep him on. Those are: Standard Process Chlorophyll Complex gluten-free, SP A-F Betafood gluten-free, SP Tuna Omega-3 Oil gluten-free, And Advanced Amino Formula. He also takes a one a day from a company called Forvia (multivitamin and mineral) and Probiotic . Recently he had to start Vitamin D as well as he was deficient.

Thank you again for your reply and comments which I have read carefully as I appreciate any input at this stage. I'm tending to listen to what my body wants me to do, having been in agony for many years any respite has been welcome and avoiding all wheat and lactose has thankfully brought this.  When in pain before I was seen by a number of gynacologists as I had 22 fibroids and had an operation 13 years ago to shrink them . However the pain remained and intensified to the point over the years where I began passing out. I was in and out of a&e during covid when waiting rooms where empty. My present diet is the only thing that's given me any hope for the future. As I say I had never heard of celiac disease before starting so I guess had this not come up in a conversation I would just have carried on. It was the swollen lymph node that sent me to a boots pharmacist who immediately sent me to a&e where a Dr asked questions prescribed antibiotics and then back to my GP. I'm now waiting for my hospital appointment . Hope this answers your question. I found out more about the disease because I googled something I wouldn't normally do, it did shed light on the disease but I also read some things that this disease can do. On good days I actually hope I haven't got this but on further investigation my mother's side of the family all Celtic have had various problems 're stomach pain my poor grandmother cried in pain as did her sister whilst two of her brother's survived WW2 but died from ulcers put down to stress of fighting.  Wishing you well with your recovery.  Many thanks

Welcome to the forum, @Nacina, What supplements is your son taking?
    • knitty kitty
@BluegrassCeliac, I'm agreeing.  It's a good thing taking magnesium. And B vitamins. Magnesium and Thiamine work together.  If you supplement the B vitamins which include Thiamine, but don't have sufficient magnesium, Thiamine won't work well.  If you take Magnesium, but not Thiamine, magnesium won't work as well by itself. Hydrochlorothiazide HCTZ is a sulfonamide drug, a sulfa drug.  So are proton pump inhibitors PPIs, and SSRIs. High dose Thiamine is used to resolve cytokine storms.  High dose Thiamine was used in patients having cytokine storms in Covid infections.  Magnesium supplementation also improves cytokine storms, and was also used during Covid. How's your Vitamin D? Hi,   Not saying Thiamine (B1) couldn't be an issue as well, but Mg was definitely the cause of my problems. It's the only thing that worked. I supplemented with B vitamins, but that didn't change anything, in fact they made me sick. Mg stopped all my muscle pain (HCTZ) within a few months and fixed all the intestinal problems HCTZ caused as well. Mom has an allergy to some sulfa drugs (IgG Celiac too), but I don't think I've ever taken them. Mg boosted my energy as well. It solved a lot of problems. I take 1000mg MgO a day with no problems. I boost absorption with Vitamin D. Some people can't take MgO,  like mom, she takes Mg Glycinate. It's one of those things that someone has try and find the right form for themselves. Everyone's different. Mg deficiency can cause anxiety and is a treatment for it. A pharmacist gave me a list of drugs years ago that cause Mg deficiency: PPIs, H2 bockers, HCTZ, some beta blockers (metoprolol which I've taken -- horrible side effects), some anti-anxiety meds too were on it. I posted because I saw he was an IgG celiac. He's the first one I've seen in 20 years, other than my family. We're rare. All the celiacs I've met are IgA. Finding healthcare is a nightmare. Just trying to help. B
