Hi. Its Heather again. I posted a couple of weeks ago to say that my DD Hannah was being considered for CF. I so appreciated everyone's feedback, that I wanted to come back and let you all know how things went.
First of all, as much as I would love a definitive diagnosis, we are travelling around a lot at the moment and I could not leave it the 6 - 8 months until we were settled to find out. I took much encouragement from someone's post that they are working on a CF test that does not require being on a gluten diet!! May it come out soon!!!
Until then, we decided to go ahead and test her ourselves by eliminating gluten from her diet. She has been gluten-free for two and a half weeks and the difference is phenomenal!!! Today she had her first ever COMPLETELY solid poo. She's 20 1/2 months old. This took too long, but we are very thankful to find out what has caused all of this. We are being referred to a pediatric dietician (which is easier to get to than the test, for some reason) who will hopefully confirm that she's getting enough calories with what she's eating, but I would say she's eating better than before. She loves the gluten-free pastas, loves rice, is relatively happy with potatoes (especially as fries/chips! - ingredients carefully checked) but does not like gluten-free breads. That's the only tough part. Oh, and she doesn't like the gluten-free crackers or snack bars either!
One further question, though. We took her off dairy back in July, thinking that was the cause of this (as my father has dairy issues) and she is still DF, although it made only the tiniest bit of difference. Does anyone know whether it might be safe to try adding in the dairy again? Then at least I could make macaroni and cheese for her???
Thanks so much for answers, and just for being here and understanding!
Heather
