My husband loves mincemeat pie. I want to make one for Christmas, but don't know of a gluten free brand of mincemeat. I searched the board here and came up blank. Has anyone had experience with this?

no experience with looking for a gluten-free one...but had to ck out this post b/c my grandma always made mincemeat pie for x-mas. and we all used to joke about the poor minces that were killed for her pies wink.gif anywho, couldn't you just make your own w/ ingredients like below? not sure where you buy beef suet, but since its just fat, i would think it should be gluten-free...unless manufacturers include additives. guess i'm not much help...but never noticed mincemeat in store. i saw it once at a country store--had been canned and processed by a local farm.

1-1/4 pounds lean beef stew meat
2-3/4 pounds Granny Smith apples, cored and chopped
1/3 pound beef suet, coarsely ground
3/4 pounds dark raisins
1/2 pound dark brown sugar
1/2 cup white vinegar
1/4 cup molasses
1/2 pound currants
1/2 cup apple juice
3/4 teaspoons ground cloves
3/4 teaspoons ground nutmeg
3/4 teaspoons ground allspice
3/4 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/2 cup bourbon or rum, divided

Jen--Thank you for that info. and recipe. I'm wondering if I could do it without the meat. Seems like any time I've had it, I never detected any meat. I recall apples and raisins--I didn't take the meat part literally biggrin.gif . Leave it to my husband to like some odd ball pie. I used to get off easy and buy Mrs. Smith's! Little minces--my husband says that, too--ha ha!
