I avoided Outback for a long time, as I heard things I didn't like about the company and politics(National politics...)

Anyways. I broke down. I really felt like having a "down home, american style dinner":meaning steak and potatoes. I have great mexican, chinese, and Indian restaraunts that know me by sight, and make me trust them when I ask for a gluten-free dinner.

The outback, here in Louisville, CO(right off 36, between Denver and Boulder) rocked.

I had called before hand...


Q: "Do you have a Gluten Free menu?"
A: no delay, answer was immediat "Yes, just ask your server when you sit down."


So we got there, of course hung around for an hour waiting for a table. I had a rum and coke...

Sat down at table. I was starting to get "nervous", typical, oh crap now I need to ask the server about gluten-free, he is going to be confused... note, that I had printed out their gluten-free menu from the website. It was in my pocket just in case.

Q: "Do you have a Gluten free menu I could see?"
A: "Yep, hold on one second, I grab one. Keep your menu, as the gluten-free one does not have the prices on it."

Note, he really did say "gluten-free" not Gluten Free. Cool... I thought!

When he next came around, he even said "Would you be interested in any appetizers? and the unbreaded shrip are gluten free(looking at me)"

Whooaa! gluten-free appetizers, I was totatally rocked!

I think this was where I ordered another rum and coke, double this time.

In a moment another server brought out my salad. Before it was set down, my waiter intercepted the plate as he saw croutons on it. I first thought, "oh crap"... but then we did realize my friend got his salad with no croutons on it, the really just had given us each the wrong salad.

All good so far. Probably ordered another rum and coke at this point.

Steak and potatoe meal was great, I had the NY strip and baked potatoe.

No gluten symptoms aftwards, I am really sensitive too so....

I give it a A+

I'd recommend the waiter, if I remebered his name. Unfortunatly, the rum and cokes kept coming that night.... :>




hmmm... I was reading my last post. This is more of a test. I am going to try to type the letters gluten-free, does this website expand them to gluten-free?

If you read my previous post, when I say "he really did say gluten-free" I swear I typed the two letters G plus F.

So I am just doing a test here. Does it expand gluten-free into gluten-free?

So happy to hear of your nice evening at Outback! I have one nearby and have not tried it yet. And yes--if you type in the letters G and then F, it will appear as gluten free.

There are good outbacks and outbacks that suck. It all depends on the management. The wait staff is supposed to have training on Gluten Free menus and such. I wish all restaraunts would do the same thing. How hard is it to make a gluten-free menu choice? Even if it is only 2 or 3?

grantschoep, I live in Lafayette and am just beginning to come to terms with a gluten-free diet. Can you share what mexican and chinese restaurants in the area that you've had good experiences at?

I have also had good Outback experiences. I have been to ours twice and both times everything was perfect. Of course I was prepared to receive a salad with croutons, but to my surprise, that never happened! It felt sooooooooo good!

I've been to three.
One I got severely glutened... I assume they made a mistake.
One I felt a little crappy, so I am unsure.
And one other one (yesterday, actually), I felt great! I have some diarreah today, though, which confused me... But I think it's just because I had a high fatty, fatty meal and I never eat saturated fats.

But man.... Delicious

To be completely off subject now, I notice a lot of people on here (including myself) are from Colorado, why is that? Do you all go to the same support group?

The celiac disease/gluten-free thing is new to me. I've had digestive issues of varying severity for a good 15 years, was diagnosed IBA about 6 years ago but never had any luck with it (doctors are pretty much useless, IMHO). This past year has been as bad as any and finally a few months ago someone suggested I try to go gluten-free and see if that helps. It does tremendously, but I've been having a hard time getting good gluten-free food, so I've started reading this forum to find things/places I can eat. It's been a great help.

I also found out about the Entero test from this forum, I've ordered the test and am looking forward to finding out what it says. I also ordered the York cdScan, since I like multiple tests to compare.

If you know of a good Boulder area celiac disease support group, I'm all ears.

Nine of us went out to Outback last week in Perry Hall, Maryland, three of us being gluten-free. Our waiter and the manager were beyond helpful and enthusiastic to make our three meals perfect and gluten-free. I was very nervous because I thought I would get sick but their helpfulness got me over my fear and I ordered a salad (I am a vegetarian). They brought it out with all the other salads and I finished mine then. Having been so good I decided to order another salad to eat when my family ate their main meals. So, I had a salad with my salad! They were both delicious and with honey mustard. My Brother had a Caesar salad, steak, sweet potatoes, and The Chocolate Thunder from Down Under while my Mom had a salad and plain grilled shrimp. I also ordered The Chocolate Thunder From Down Under but to take home and without the ice cream. That dessert is so yummie! I would never have tried it if our waiter and the manager hadn’t made me so confident in them! Next time I am back in Maryland I will make sure they are there. We all did fine and no one had any problems after the meal. It was a great night with family and I ate every single bite of my food.
