Hi,
My daughter now 3 1/2 and her 2 year old sister are lactose intolerant. They also have never been very fond of soy yogurt and I feel they don't need all that soy if they don't have to have it. So, I was thinking about making my own. I was looking at yogurt makers but could use some more info. Has anyone ever tried this? I read that the longer it sits the more lactose is gone. Can you use lactaid? What do you need to do this? Any help would be a blessing!

They could just take lactaid (the pill variety) just before eating the yogurt. You could probably use lactaid milk (which is just milk with the enzyme that's in the pill already added) to make it, but I haven't tried. (I'm casein intolerant.)

Thanks. We already use the milk but my girls are too young for the pill and we couldn't afford it even if they could take it. Also, I forgot to mention that they can't have any artificail colors. This makes it very difficult.

Hi,
As I mentioned in my last post, my girls can not tolerate any amount of lactose. They also don't like soy yogurt and can not handle any artificial color. This made buying yogurt very hard. I found a website GIProheath.com, they make a dairy, soy, corn, gluten and wheat free yogurt starter called ProGurt. So I decided to give it a try. They say it is excellent for people with Celiac. I also ordered a Yogourmet yogurt maker. Both got here on Wednesday. I was so excited! I also found out about the SCD diet. (Breaking through the vicious cylce) They said that if you use cows milk and let it ferment 24 hours it would be lactose free. So I tried. Both my girls were sick. So I made it with Lactaid. It worked! They love it. You can also make it with soy or nut milks. Just had to tell everyone!
