I'm 15 years old and have been gluten free for 11 months now. But, I have just recently started having sleep problems:

I will be tired all day, and all night. I will be reading in bed or watching tv, decide it's time for bed, then when I am actually lying down, trying to fall asleep, I can't. All of the sudden I'm not tired anymore. So, after trying to sleep for about an hour I finally fall asleep. When I wake up, I don't feel refreshed and during the day I am tired and irritable. So, my question is, is this celiac related, teenager related and is it something I should contact the doctor about? Is there sleeping disorders linked to celiac disease?

Thank you for your comments smile.gif

i don't know if it could be celiac related or not, but as the mother of a teenager, i am glad to see that you are concerned about it. (don't i just sound like a mom!LOL!) my 18 yr old son does not sleep well and he is grouchy, and seems to have more aches and pains than a boy who works out on a regular basis should have. i have fibromyalgia and i know that sleep problems aggravate it. lack of sleep can even cause fibro problems in a person without fibro.
i think it would be a good idea to discuss this with your doc.

I was like that when I was eating gluten....are you sure you aren't getting some hidden gluten somewhere??? Lipgloss ect???

If not I would bring it up to your dr!! B/c if you are as gluten-free as possible than other things could be going on!!!!

Good Luck!

I agree with j-mommy. It sounds like it could be a symptom of gluten, but if you're sure you're not getting any gluten, I'd head to the doc. There are plenty of other things that can cause fatigue and sleep problems so it's worth getting checked out.

Hi I agree the symptoms looks like gluten in getting into the diet. When did the symptoms started, and check if you added anything after that.
Take care and best regards to you.

My sister has been diagnosed with adrenal fatigue. Her adrenal gland is not functioning properly due damage caused by all the years she was eating gluten. Her celiac disease was activated 8 years ago but she only recently found out about it. She told me that it was explained to her that the adrenal gland is not giving her the hormones she needs at the right times (or right amount or kind?)so she goes to bed at night without what she needs to sleep and then wakes up in the morning without what she needs to wake up. I feel the same alot of the time and I know that mine is separate from the fatigue and inability to sleep that comes from being glutened. It feels different. The doctors would love that explanation! You said this is a recent problem where as our has been a problem for a long time. I would talk to your doctor about your symptoms. Goodness knows we all need a good night's sleep.
