Question - should I go gluten-free before having the biopsy and everything? I'm reading I may get a "false negative"... what do you all think?
AndreaB
If you are going to have a biopsy done you need to remain on the gluten. You could definately get a false negative if you go off gluten beforehand.

The blood and biopsy tests are worthless if you are gluten free. You should not go gluten free until you have completed testing.

The tests measure different types of antibodies to gluten and the damage caused by gluten/antibodies. If you remove gluten (and you are a Celiac), your body stops producing antibodies, and you begin to heal. The goal for a Celiac is to have their blood/biopsy results return to normal after going gluten free. Only when they eat gluten will their antibodies, etc. rise again. Not eating gluten defeats the purprose of initial Celiac testing.
