I was diagnosed with Celiac in early October, however by GI Dr doesn't really seem to know a lot about the disease. I am having multiple issues and he just thinks it will all clear up in a couple of months with the right diet. From what I have read that is not necessarily true and I would like a second opion. I live in Northwest Arkansas and have not had any luck finding a doctor in the area. Any ideas for NW Arkansas, NE Oklahoma or even SW Missouri...all those areas are within traveling distance. Thanks. smile.gif Lori in Arkansas

Hi Lori,

I also live in NW Arkansas. I go to Tulsa for my Celiac management. I have a great GI there that knows a lot about Celiac. His name is Markham L. Nightengale, MD.

He runs all the additional bloodwork for liver, b12, vit. d, anemia, thyroid, etc. He also ran other tests to check for crohns and other GI diseases. He had me get a dexascan which showed osteoporosis.

He seems really up on the disease and the effects it can have on the whole body. He monitors me for those things every six months. If you want his number let me know. I don't know anyone locally that treats Celiac. You could ask the local support group. I think there is a pretty group in the Springdale area.

By the way, there is a great restaurant in Tulsa that has a large selection of gluten free items. The owner/chef has celiac disease, so everyone there has knowledge of the gluten free diet.

Congrats on your new coach. I am an OU fan, but also follow the razorbacks.

Dr. Mark Olsen in Lowell is a doctor I highly recommend. he suspected I had Celiac disease because of the typical symptoms but also because of my neurological problems similar to Multiple Sclerosis. He did all the right things and I was diagnosed at last. Never felt better.

We have a Fayetteville support group but I've lost contact. I need to check with the health foods section of the Harps store across from Hobby Lobby. Do you know anyone in the Fayetteville group and how to get in touch?
