blink.gif Hi, I'm new to this site and my situation is I had mentioned to my doctor I had some abdominal bloating/gassiness and had narrowed it down to occuring when I ate wheat and barley. I also have an aunt who says she is celiac, but I think has never been formally diagnosed. My doctor ordered a blood test and the first result came back weak positive. She reordered the same test and it came back negative. She is saying it is not necessary to redo a third time, that I am not celiac....here is the specific result and test interpretation (this was for the anti tissue transglutaminase IGG). I made sure I kept eating lots of gluten products through both tests (there was a 6 week lapse between blood tests). Is it possible one of these tests was flawed, and can I know which one? It doesn't make sense there would be such a huge variation in the results to my thinking. Anyone with any thoughts?

My first result - 5.3
My second result - .2

I would try the diet strictly for a couple of months. Simply put if I had kept relying on blood testing I would be dead by now. I was tested over and over and over and each time only heard that I should be happy the tests were negative. It took an allergist and a strict elimination diet lead by the doctor to finally diagnose me. I was then confirmed by my ex-GI when a gluten challenge after 2 months gluten-free almost killed me.
You have found a great place for info and support, read as much as you can here and ask any questions you need to. Welcome.

Thanks for the information. I did go gluten free over the summer (probably about 3 months) and it was hard to pinpoint whether I felt alot of improvement at the time (other than no episodes of burping and bloating), but what I really noticed is when I went back to eating gluten products I felt generally bloated, tired/fatigued and after meals I would feel uncomfortably full, whereas when I was gluten free I could eat a meal and when I was full it wasn't uncomfortable.

I think I'll go back to gluten free regardless of test results.

Thanks again!
