My daughter got all excited because a character mentioned gluten-free marshmallows on Hannah Montana today. The show was a little negative about it but my little girls thought it was so cool. smile.gif

Anyone know any other mentions of gluten-free diets in kids' shows?

Since my sons are grown now, I don't watch any of the kid's shows anymore....but yesterday on QVC, they were selling a breadmaker. The host was going through the cookbook that comes with it, and said that there is a gluten-free setting and a great recipe in the book for gluten-free bread.

He said that his wife is "gluten sensitive" and eats gluten-free. The other man who was representing the company that makes the machine added that gluten-free flours are now available in many grocery stores.

Yep, we just watched that one (for the 100th time I think!!) today on the HM marathon. My dd's smile every time they hear that line. Then one of them says "but all marshmallows are gluten-free!!" They think it is just funny to hear gluten-free mentioned on their fav show!

AWESOME! i hate how it's always negative mentions that intolerances/allergies get.

There is a radio station in Dallas (i don't know if it's everywhere), and it has no DJ's it's all computerized and it plays random songs, but it's just about commercial free, and mostly just plays music. They do say little things in between songs sometimes. the other day i was listening and they said "Okay, so we aren't commercial free, but hey... we are gluten-free" I guess since there are no Dj's and it's just computers it is true lol. I was pretty happy to hear it mentioned like that smile.gif Maybe people will start understanding what gluten is soon smile.gif

It was mentioned on "That's so Raven" about a year ago. My daughter isn't even a celiac and she was excited about it. smile.gif

Her Dad, Billy Ray, had a program called "DOC" and they too had an episode that involved a celiac person. They must be familiar with celiac disease.

OK, Disney Channel is about the only channel that's ever turned on in my house these days!

Now I have to ask which episodes of Hannah Montana and That's So Ravin mentioned gluten-free. I've probably seen all of them - or at least listened to them while playing online.
HAK1031
what was the context in both of these?

Hey! Inquiring minds still want to know!

In DOC I don't recall the details, but he diagnosed someone as having celiac disease ...I think, just think if I recall, the patient was an older teenager whose family thought she had an eating disorder. Don't quote me though, it's been a few years since I saw it.

Here is a link about the on on Raven on this forum. It wasn't a whole segment, just mentioned in passing.

All of the kids shows nowadays (GOD that makes me sound old!) make me run screaming from the room, so when they come on, I don't usually stick around for long. But I definitely hear when they mention gluten-free. I think my spidey sense kicks in and I can hear it from anywhere in the house. laugh.gif

Hannah Montana just had one of the characters mention something about toasting gluten-free marshmallows. I wasn't paying attention at all to the show (bad mom!) but I'm certain it was just a remark in passing.

I just watched the movie Sydney White with Amanda Bynes.. and they had a gluten free conversation! I had to tell someone, and I figured you would all get just as excited as I was. They were at a cookout, and Sydney reassured her friend that they had a separate gluten free soy burger for him! Another girl overheard and was like ohh do you have another one? He responded, "your gluten free too??" and she replied, "yes! my whole life! it can be so hard!" hahah I was like beaming!! biggrin.gif
