Hi, I'm a recently self-diagnosed gluten intolerant member. I have changed my diet drastically in the past three weeks and now all of the sudden I am finding little black flecks in my stool. I am hypothyroid and although I take the gluten intolerance seriously, I may be getting traces of it in my diet still (I'm having a little trouble working it out of my diet still). I feel about 90% better so far, just very hungry still, and wondering about these new black flecks in my stool. Does anyone else have this or have an idea of what it is?

I don't want to freak you out but black color in stool can be indicative of blood from inside your digestive tract, as opposed to bright red blood which would be from a hemmorhoid. Have you had an endoscopy and/or colonoscopy? Now would be a good time to make an appointment with a gastroenterologist.
It could also be from some new food(s) you may have introduced since going gluten free.

Black flecks floating in the bowl from the stool can also be from 'dumping of oxalates' that have built up from foods injested that contain high oxalate'. I get this when i have 'dumping' episodes. There is a there here on here that discusses this issue.
