nikky
hi im nikky, i was diagnosed with coeliac in december and i joined this forum yesterday, i thought i would tell you a little about myself.

im 15 years old and i live in the UK, i have two sisters and one brother, as far as we know none of them have coeliac, the only reason i know about it is that i went to the doctors with shoulder pain and they checked for iron-deficiency-anemia, which was positive, so they then decided to check for coeliac.

it took a while for me to be diagnosed because the biopsy was clear but the bloods were repeatedly over 200. in december my consultant decided to try the diet anyway and ignore the biopsy for now. it has become clear that he made the right decision as the antibody levels are now just 40 - still not low enough, but a significant improvement.

i recently also descovered that i have benign hypercalcemia which seems to run in my family as my paternal grandmother also has hypercalcemia. as for the problems with my shoulders im due to start physio therapy tomorrow although i dont know how they are going to help when they dont know what they are meant to be treating.

sorry about the long post.

Welcome Nikky, smile.gif

I'm sure you will start to feel much better soon. I know I used to have pain in my joints and even in my bones. And I was thinking I was way too young to feel this old. It's all gone now!

I'm glad you had such an insightful doctor to test you for that!

I know you will get lots of good advice and feedback here.

thankyou for the welcome Gina, smile.gif it was actually a standin doctor that ordered the tests.

i think that i may have been having symptoms when i was younger because i kept feeling really ill, but i was a very stubborn child and wouldnt let my mother take me to the doctors rolleyes.gif
thankfully ive become a bit more mature scince that laugh.gif
