Admittedly, our school nurse was already a sweetheart!! We were on friendly terms before any issues started with my daughter because my son used to "visit" her often . . . just to break up his day, I think. When my daughter started having issues and had to see her daily for medictions, the school nurse was well-informed of all the results and conversations with the doctors. This year, as we have delved into the celiac world, we have been bringing gluten-free goodies to the nurse. I love to share my homemade goodies. You can not tell that my cookies and cakes are gluten-free.

Our school nurse plays a huge role in the school's wellness program. She is very protective of all the allergy/restricted diet kids and makes sure that parents are notified or special items are brought in for any kids with special diets during any of the scheduled school parties or wellness program activities. This week, she asked me for a gluten-free recipe for cookies. She said she wanted to bake a batch of cookies to distribute to the teachers as she provides them with information on wheat allergies and celiac disease. I was thrilled. However, I told her it would be easier for me to just make them since I had all the ingredients. She didn't want it to be my job. . . so we have come to a compromise. She is going to come over to my house and she and my daughter and I are going to make them together. Then she can also get filled in on some of the other nuances to cooking gluten-free . . . and gluten-free products . . . and the gluten-free challenges, etc. My daughter is tickled pink.
