Ack! This has never happened to me before. I took a B12 supplement which is a liquid, and placed it under my tongue. Now I am bright red ALL over, my skin is on fire and my ears seriously feel like they are pulsating. Otherwise, I'm fine, lol.

Anyone ever have this happen??? I've taken this a million times before, with no problems. I don't know why I am reacting now, but it's definately not fun.

Is it possible that you are haveing a reaction to something else - delayed or otherwise? Weird that you would react to the same substance after so many ingestions!

Might they have changed the formula?

I read the back of the bottle last night, and sure enough.....it says that Niacin can cause temporary flushing and burning due to capillary dilation. Good to know, it just really threw me! Last week I broke out in hives and never found the cause. My skin has not been behaving recently, lol. I've only had hives once in my life as a teenager, from some antibiotics. But it's been close to 20 years since I've had an allergic reaction. I dunno, it seems like with Celiac there is always something new to try and figure out!

Taking Niacin in pill form and in liquid "under the tongue" form are completely different! If you've never taken it as liquid under the tongue, that is probably the reason for your reaction. The absorbtion into the bloodstream is much much faster and much much more complete (high concentration). That's why nitroglycerin is given under the tongue. If you previously took Niacin in pill form, I would go back to that! The burning flushing is supposedly not too dangerous, but I wouldn't want it to happen ever!
And if you have taken it that way before with no reaction, you have to consider the fact that you have been building up (very slowly) a hypersensitivity to it over time.
Best to lessen dose or try different form.
Good luck!

I have had the horrible niacin reaction from pills. My mom gave them to me after I was diagnosed since I was deficient. You couldn't pay me to take that stuff ever again.

I would get a B12 supplement that is in pill form and dissolves under the tongue. Taking it by itself makes for better absorption and that way you are only taking one substance and it will make it easier to pinpoint if you are reacting to something in it. Some are loaded with sugar alcohols, I would look for one with the least ingredients possible and clearly labeled gluten free. Country Life makes a good one.
