So, I came down with a sore throat on my last day of vacation (btw, was just sitting at home for the whole week), and had to go back to work Monday completely miserable. Work has been slam packed, so I couldn't take any (more) time off. Anyway, sore throat turned into sinus congestion and a fever on Monday night. Thankfully broke Tuesday night, but now turned into a beastly cough. I talk all day at work, so I can't be hacking up my lungs.
I've been chugging cough syrup (suppressant/expectorant w/ some decongestant), drinking tons of water and herbal tea, and sucking on cough drops constantly for the last 3 days. With all that, my stomach is punishing me severely (I'm guessing it's from the cough drops and/or all the drainage). I have been so horribly gassy and in so much pain. This is like, EXPLOSIVE gas! Like, have to run to the bathroom cuz I think it's gonna be D...so stinky and painful! I've been taking phazyme, hasn't done ANYTHING! I'm desperate! What do I do???

Have you treid one of those personal steamers, they are a small device that you breath in steamy water. It is sold over thecounter in most drug stores.
Chicken soup?
A sinus cleanser that is a kit you buy at a Drug store that you can use to rinse out your Sinuses with Saline.
All these things are not medicine but works for me. When I have a cold I drink Blak tea, I do not mind the Caffeine and If I have a sore throat I gargle with warm salty water. I also spray my nose when I go to the Doctor with Sailine so that I do not catch a new cold on top of the old one.
Some people recommend Coke ( Is that gluten-free)?

I think I may just have had the same virus! I'm just getting over the cough. It's tough if you can't take time off.

A friend of mine gave a tip to drink sage tea, that did seem to alleviate my throat a little and not bother my stomach too much. I just made tea with some sage from my spice rack. smile.gif While I was teaching I sipped little mouthfuls of water with lemon juice to keep my throat wet, that also helped a little.

I also made garlic tea, a couple of cloves of garlic boiled for a while, then drank the water. That gives me gas, but it did seem to help. Maybe. smile.gif

It was really summery warm here last week but I was wearing woollen socks and scarf, lol.

Rinsing my nose and gargling my throat also felt good.

If you can't take time off to rest, at least make sure that you go to bed early and get as much sleep as you can. Your body really needs it. A couple of days I managed to take a nap in the afternoon, that really felt good!

Hope you feel better soon!

I just had that type of virus. I hammered it with colloidal silver and vitamin C. Miserable for 2 days, but then by day 4 completely gone.

If you're gonna do the chicken soup, add as much pepper as you can stand. The heat will clear your nose and it's somewhat anti-inflammatory as well. The nose rinse is a very good idea too, and if you can find a wild cherry bark extract, that should help a lot with your cough. It also tastes good. Hot tea with just lemon juice and honey in it should soothe your throat. It's kinda like a liquid cough drop.
