I'm partaking in a small class trip to Athens and Rome in about a month. And I have no idea how to accomodate my celiacs disease needs. Any ideas, suggestions, or advice?
Hi
I travel to Greece a lot as my sister lives there. Although they do not have a lot of coeliacs they do fully understand the illness and most hotels and restaurants can cater for you. I had a dietary medical card translated by my sister in English and Greek and find that when I show it the staff will tell you what you can have. I am happy to email you a copy of this, I'm not sure how this works as this is my first time on this site. I am searching all coeliac websites as I am moving to Corfu next year and am setting up my own coeliac hotel.
As for Italy, they are much more aware of the illness as they have more sufferers there. Many places are specifically for Coeliacs and most people are aware of it. Italy also has their own Coeliac Society you can find this on the web. There are also some free european medical cards for eating out for free on the web.
I hope that this is helpful to you.
